MasterCraft X-35 Review

I was able to go out on an X-35 Mastercraft a few weeks ago. We went to my local lake (Quail Creek Reservior) on a sunny Wednesday morning. Conditions were perfect.

Many of you might remember that I received a hassle from the dealer about requiring a deposit, signed bill of sale and other nonsense before doing a demo. They called back and apologized for the mixup and offered to take me out no questions asked. So I decided to take them up on the offer.

Justin, our sales and demo guy was terrific and met us at the ramp early in the morning. He brought the X-35 they have here locally. It is a gorgeous silver metal flake boat with marroon bottom and accents.

The interior was typical Mastercraft. It was very comfortable and remarkably deep. It felt like riding in a 25 foot I/O. It tends to ride very high in the water and felt like the kids could run around and no one would fall out. The seats were sturdy, but soft, and there were no rattles or shakes whatsoever.

Whoever designed the current MC tower needs to be getting a raise. It feels like it belongs on the boat, not some afterthought. It is sturdy and the rotating board racks are superior to anything I have seen. The bimini is nicely integrated as well.

The wake was terrific. The best word for me is ‘easy’. It has a nice long ramp and a little pop off the top that made it effortless to wakeboard behind even for this 6′9″ washed up 40 year old.

The fridge is hard to get used to. It takes up a lot of space and would really have been nice to just have more seating there. THe fridge can be removed and then it would make a perfect little storage spot for garbage or whatever.

The only downside I can find on this boat is that it comes with a hefty pricetag, as do most MC models. The MSRP was quoted around 100K, and getting into the low 80’s would be approachable for some dealers, I think.

Clinton Lake is of the devil.

We went to Clinton Lake on Saturday to check out the surroundings. The crew was looking for more young, attractive , boating females than Hilsdale Lake currently has to offer — Clinton Lake is right next to Lawrence, KS (Home of the Kansas Jayhawks!). The drive was long and tedious - several nice fillup stations along the way though.

When we got there - the ramp was busy but really easy to back down. We dropped the Malibu in the water, fired her up, and took off for some site seeing. After cruising the lake for 30 minutes or so, we found the “party cove”. Keep in mind, no one throws down like the kids at the Rock Quarry on Kentucky Lake! This was a combination of like, ten boats, all kind of floating around on their own accord.

We circle the bay — then the proverbial crap hit the fan. The Malibu started jerking hard. The most horrid sound you could imagine was echoing through the bay. I hit a rock shelf, ripping the propeller apart.

SpeakerSox Tower Speaker Covers for Wetsound Pro 80s

When I purchased my 2004 Malibu Wakesetter XTI, I knew the first thing I wanted to do was create the ultimate stereo.

Now that I’ve had the boat a few weeks and I have put some serious blood, sweat, and tears into the project, I am proud to say I have one of the nicest Audio setups I could have ever Imagined. I have the responsibility of protecting my nice things. Before I had even taken ownership of the Malibu, I had ordered (2) Wetsound Pro80s Tower Speakers for my Skylon Swoop Tower Rack. Tim, at Wetsounds, was very courtesy and friendly and delivered the speakers in time for me to have them installed before Memorial Day Weekend!

Several weeks have passed and I am now looking for a solution to protect these powerful, but expensive speakers. I turned to Wakeworld in hopes of finding a good solution - Turns out I lucked out! Jim at Speakersox was able to help me out! Speakersox creates a ‘jersey-like’ covering that can be used to help protect tower speakers. They do Custom Embrodiery as well as custom coloring. Jim has been very easy to work with and has stayed in touch with me throughout the process. My new Yellow custom Pro80 Wetsounds covers have been created and shipped.

Expect a complete review when I recieve them!
